Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon and rectum.

This long-term condition can flare-up at any time, with symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, fatigue, and weight loss. And this can massively affect overall quality of life.

Conventional Treatments Options

There are a few ways to help relieve some of the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. This can include:

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs such as aminosalicylates
  • Corticosteroids for flare-ups
  • Immunosuppressants and biologic therapies
  • Dietary management and lifestyle support
  • Surgery to remove part or all of the colon in severe cases

Although some people may find relief with a combination of the above, for others it simply isn’t enough.
