Conventional Ulcerative Colitis treatment options
There are a few ways to help manage some of the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. This can include:
Anti-inflammatory drugs such as aminosalicylates
Corticosteroids for flare-ups
Immunosuppressants and biologic therapies
Dietary management and lifestyle support
Surgery to remove part or all of the colon in severe cases
Although some people may find relief with a combination of the above, for others it simply isn’t enough.
Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon and rectum.
This long-term condition can flare-up at any time, with symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, fatigue, and weight loss.
When traditional treatments have not provided effective relief from symptoms or have caused unwanted side effects, an alternative treatment may be considered.
Your safety is our priority
As a Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated clinic, we are subject to independent oversight and regulation, and operate in accordance with strict clinical governance protocols to ensure every patient receives responsible care.
We consider alternative treatments only when conventional ulcerative colitis medications or therapies have not provided sufficient relief or have caused unwanted side effects.
Consultations do not guarantee a prescription. Our clinicians only prescribe when there is a clear unmet clinical need and it is deemed safe for the patient.
Every prescription is validated by a specialist doctor and reviewed by a secondary clinical board to ensure suitability.
We will notify your NHS GP of your treatment plan to ensure your medical records are kept up to date. To ensure we care for you in the safest way possible we may ask to reach out to other people involved in your care.
